Warsaw is very well connected, by means of airplanes and trains, with many European cities, so we would advise you to use one of these options to get there.

Airports and airlines

There are two international airports in/next to Warsaw:

1. Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW/EPWA)

This is the main international airport of Warsaw and Poland. It is located in the southern part of the city, and has very good connections with the city center. Many airlines operate from this airport (LOT, Emirates, Qatar Airways, AerLingus, Aegan, AirBerlin, Adria, Aeroflot, Belavia, airBaltic, AirFrance, Alitalia, Austrian, SprintAir, Eurolot, AirOne, Brussels Airlines, British Airways, Germanwings, Czech Airlines, Al Al, Finnair, KLM, Lufthansa, Norwegian, Wizzair, WOW Air, UIA, SAS), which makes it accessible from many European countries. If an airline from your country is not mentioned above, try LOT Polish Airlines (LOT), for which the Chopin Airport is the main hub and has many destinations across Europe. One can take a train or a bus to get to the city center and the travel takes about 25 minutes. Taxi in this case is an option as well, but one should use one of the companies mentioned by the Chopin Airport Website.

Useful links:

If you decide to take a train – there are two companies whose trains go from the airport to the city centre:

  • SKM Warszawa (SKM) – the tickets are the same as for the buses, trams and underground – see above the website of the Public Transport Authority

  • Koleje Mazowieckie (KM) – they have a separate ticket system

2. Warsaw Modlin Airport (WMI/EPMO)

This is a relatively new international airport (activity started July 2012) for low-fare airlines. Nowadays there is one airline operating there – Ryanair. The airport is located 41 km to the North-West of the Warsaw city center. The most convenient way to get there is to take a train. There is a shuttle bus which takes passengers from the airport terminal to the closest railway station, Modlin, from which there are trains departing to the central station (Warszawa Centralna) or to the Warszawa Gdańska station, which is located above an underground station. There are also bus lines from the airport to Warsaw city center. The travel takes approximately forty minutes. We do not recommend taking a taxi as it might cost a lot.

Train connections

Warsaw has international connections with many cities across Europe. The best way to check is to visit the following websites. The Central Railway Station (Warszawa Centralna) is the closest to the city center.

Traveling by car

We do not recommend traveling to Warsaw by car as the road network in Poland is currently being modernized to large extent, which makes traveling by car tiring and time-consuming. The only one well accessible direction is from the German border (Frankfurt (Oder) – Świecko crossing), from which there is a ready motorway (A2) directly to Warsaw.
